have I even golfed?
golf is the prime example of a sculpted, engineered, built environment. these playable landscapes represent a host of issues, namely; environmental concerns/visions, as well as, class and elitism. golf’s history is of humble origins, hitting pebbles over sand dunes or simply passing the time. it even has a moment of pacifism in that it was banned due to scottish men neglecting their military training. yet, once king james iv of scotland endorsed it, becoming the “first golf monarch”* it quickly spread amongst the elite and even further through colonialism, and became a game for the rich and privileged.
